Italian air force Col. Gerardo Contristano, Office for the Protection of the Culture and the Memory of the Defense Historical and Statistical director, briefs about the legal, methodological and ethical aspects of the recovery of corpses of soldiers of World War I in the Alps during the fourth Scientific Summit in Milan, Italy, Sept. 19, 2025. The event was co-hosted by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency and the University of Milan, Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology and Odontology. The summit included information about ongoing recoveries, identification processes and advancements, partnerships and innovations, and any significant developments regarding specific cases of missing service members.
