U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker walks alongside Polish Land Forces officers at Iron Defender-25 at the Orzysz Training Area in Orzysz, Poland, Sept. 17, 2025. Across Poland, approximately 30,000 service members and 600 pieces of military equipment from Poland and allied nations are participating in the exercise. The exercise is Poland’s largest training event of 2025 and included multinational participation from NATO allies. The purpose of large-scale training events like Iron Defender-25 is to prove the Polish Armed Forces and their NATO allies' ability to deter and effectively defend the territory of Poland.
