Day hikers snowshoe from Spicer Sno-Park on the Stanislaus National Forest, Pacific Southwest Region, USDA Forest Service, April 29, 2023, to bag the summit of 7,840-foot Whittakers Dardanelles. The peak is located near Spicer Reservoir in the Calavares Ranger District. With snow on the ground and the road closed, the route is 24 miles, round-trip, all along a forest road till right past the reservoir and then straight up. It took the hikers 13 hours, leaving at 6 a.m. and back to vehicle at 7 p.m. (USDA Forest Service photo by Paul Wade)
