More than just 1 Small ACT…Naval Hospital Bremerton Health Promotion and Mental Health departments shared knowledgeable insight and informational advice for National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, September 10, 2025. One specific reminder for staff members, as well as patients and visitors, was to take all talk about suicide seriously. Staff were asked to note one small act they would do if they encountered someone exhibiting suicidal tendencies. The acronym ACT – Acknowledge, Care, Treatment – provides a ready reference to Actively listen and acknowledge talk, behavior, and feelings; Care for shipmate with suicidal thoughts and let that person know you care, understand and will discuss what is troubling them; and Treat by obtaining professional help as soon as possible, contacting medical or calling 911/taking to the nearest emergency room and not leaving the person alone, ever.
