Waves crash over the bow of the USS San Antonio while it sped to the last known location of a missing fishing vessel, March 8, off the coast of North Carolina. The ship braved 14-foot waves during the search for the craft, which involved the San Antonio, the USS Carter Hall and the U.S. Coast Guard. The fishing vessel, which had lost electronic and navigation capabilities, was later reported as safe after returning to shore using a magnetic compass. The USS San Antonio is currently undergoing an operational evaluation to determine if it is ready to carry Marines aboard into future amphibious and maritime operations. Elements of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Battalion Landing Team 3/8 are aboard the ship to assist in the trials. (Official U.S. Navy photo/Petty Officer Erik N. Hoffman)
