A hiker stands on top of Granite Peak. Hikers, whose goal is to bag, or summit, as many peaks in a day, hike and snowshoe 16 miles on the Tahoe National Forest, Pacific Southwest Region, USDA Forest Service, in California, April 12, 2025. The first peak they bag is Ladybug Peak, 8,378-feet, then dip across a saddle to grab Granite Peak, 8,291-feet, and then climb to summit Verdi Peak, 8,459-feet. Verdi is the main goal and a former California Fire Lookout Tower. After seven hours they returned to their vehicle. (USDA Forest Service photo by Paul Wade)
