N. Charleston, SC (May 14, 2025) Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic scientists recently worked on buoy-based collecting and sensing technologies in the Innovative Prototyping Lab of NIWC Atlantic’s Multidisciplinary Research Center (MRC) as part of a maritime initiative called Tactical Integrated Data Ecosystem (TIDE). NIWC Atlantic launched its first TIDE buoy platforms into the Charleston Harbor earlier this year in partnership with South Carolina’s Department of Natural Resources. The TIDE project is an effort to advance state-of-the-art technologies for the warfighter in distributed maritime sensing and battlespace awareness. Groundwork inside of NIWC Atlantic’s MRC supports TIDE research and evaluation of assured data backhaul options in afloat and ashore maritime domains using mesh networks to enable data-sharing and communications through a decentralized system of sensors and radio equipment.
