A joint convoy comprised of Sailors assigned to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK), Soldiers assigned to Eighth Army 95th Transportation Company, and Soldiers from the Republic of Korea Army’s 2nd Operations Command depart Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC), during a Noncombatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) exercise, Aug. 21, 2025. CNFK, Eighth Army, and ROK Army conducted the joint combined NEO exercise as part of Ulchi Freedom Shield 25, an annual combined exercise conducted in support of the ROK-U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty signed in 1953. This combined exercise program highlights the ironclad commitment between the two nations to maintain a robust combined defense posture and to defend the people of the ROK from any external threat. CNFK is the U.S. Navy’s representative in the Republic of Korea, providing leadership and expertise in naval matters to improve institutional and operational effectiveness between the two navies and to strengthen collective security efforts in Korea and the region.
