An x-ray device is used to scan the contents of a mine shape during foreign material exploitation operations in exercise ARCTIC EDGE 2025 (AE25) at Anchorage, Alaska, Aug. 14, 2025. Foreign material exploitation is the process by which explosive ordnance disposal technicians collect, analyze, and document information from recovered explosive devices, components, or materials to support intelligence, threat assessment, and future operations. AE25 is a North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command-led homeland defense exercise designed to improve readiness, demonstrate capabilities, and enhance Joint and Allied Force interoperability in the Arctic.
