Thornton, 34, of Martinsville, Virginia, killed during World War II, during his funeral at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Aug. 15, 2025. Thornton, who was killed on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, was accounted for by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency on March 10, 2025, and returned to his family for burial with full military honors.
