GRAFENWOEHR TRAINING AREA, Germany — Soldiers assigned to Task Force Saber, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine, conduct preliminary qualifications with the M4 rifle and the Army Combat Fitness Test July 23, 2025. These events are required for Soldiers competing for the Expert Infantry Badge or Expert Soldier Badge. From Sept. 8–23, JMTG-U Soldiers will participate in testing hosted by the 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), based on their military occupational specialty. Candidates must successfully complete physical and mental challenges, including a fitness assessment, day and night land navigation, weapons qualification, medical and patrol lanes, and a 12-mile foot march. EIB and ESB testing develops highly skilled Soldiers at all levels, enhancing readiness, lethality and cohesion across Army formations.
