NEWPORT, R.I. — Students of the International Maritime Staff Operators Course (IMSOC) at the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) visit the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Arlington (LPD 24) pierside at Naval Station Newport, Aug. 6, 2025. IMSOC prepares mid-grade international maritime officers, and personnel from other uniformed services and government agencies, to support the planning and execution of complex maritime operations in a coalition environment. The course equips students with the procedures necessary to plan, prepare, execute, and assess combined maritime operations. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage.
