An aircrew from the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron conducts a test flight from Keesler Air Force Base Miss., Oct. 2, 2024. The test flight occurred due to updated internet accessible technology and a KU Antenna installed on one of the WC-130J planes to better support their mission of flying into tropical storms and hurricanes to collect weather data for forecasters and scientists of weather organizations to track and predict the path of the storms. The KU Antenna was installed above the flight deck on the top of the plane, with wires connected to multiple systems including the navigation and chat systems which will allow internet accessibility to occur during flight while in intense storms. This capability will ensure that the crew can connect to the internet and livestream weather data and radars, as well as chat with other weather organizations and ground support to provide accurate and updated information.
