Carderock’s STEM and Outreach Program Director, Charlotte George receives a hug from Community Outreach and Student Engagement Coordinator Ashlee Floyd, after receiving the “Sponsoring Facility Lead” award for her outstanding contributions to the Science, Mathematics, And Research for Transformation program (SMART), as the SMART Sponsoring Facility Lead at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division on July 25, 2025, in West Bethesda, Md. George has served as lead since 2018, strengthening the Department of Defense’s future STEM workforce, with the selection of more than 103 SMART Scholars that have gone on to science and technology careers.
