Defense Logistics Agency, a member of the Joint Defense Manufacturing Technology Panel (JDMTP), compared additive manufacturing parts with traditional manufacturing methods at the Pentagon, July 8, 2025. A 3D-printed and machined prototype has demonstrated superior performance and cost-effectiveness compared to both traditionally cast and machined parts, and reverse-engineered cast and machined prototypes. The display was part of an annual event sponsored by the DoD Manufacturing Technology Program (DoD ManTech), which included exhibits and demonstrations across its portfolio. The JDMTP identifies shared manufacturing needs of the Military Services, and works with DoD ManTech to resolve warfighter challenges through technology and innovation.
