With the mercury climbing outdoors…Naval Hospital Bremerton Health Promotion and Wellness monthly display for July focused specifically on providing summer safety tips, guidance and advice. Staff and patients were invited to participate in testing their knowledge on practicing summer safety. “We touched on several topics to include fire safety while camping, BBQing/grilling, or using fireworks as well as checking your home fire detectors and changing batteries,” explained Trish Skinner, NHB Health Promotion Adhering to suitable protection from the sun for skin and eyes were also covered. Did you know, a person is more likely to get a sunburn going outside when thew sun rays are more direct, which usually takes place between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Skinner noted that proper hydration is not just a topic du jour during the summer but is especially crucial as it allows a body to cool down and remove waste. Carrying a water bottle makes for easy access when on the go. Skinner also advocates to choose water and not a surgery drink even when dining out. “The use of sunscreen and maintaining hydration were ‘hot’ – pun intended - topics as local temperatures are reaching into the 90s this week,” exclaimed Skinner (official Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Jennifer Benedict).
