As Sgt. Major of the Army Kenneth Preston (at podium) reads the name of Army Sgt. 1st Class Kyle Wehrly, of Galesburg, Ill., Wehrly’s mother, Nita Cross, greets Louie Gonzalez, commander of the American Legion of Illinois. She later received her gold Star banner from Illinois Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn. Wehrly died in Ashraf, Iraq, on Nov. 3, 2005.
