Singer-songwriter John Mellencamp leaves the stage after performing as part of the opening ceremony of the Center for the Intrepid at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Jan. 29, 2007. Mellencamp performed two of his hit songs, “Little Pink Houses” and “This is Our Country” for the audience of about 3,000. The entertainer said he came to the event because it was a very worthwhile project. “It shows the spirit of what people can do on their own when they want to and when they need to,” he said.
