    Army Maj. Gen. James Fretterd, Maryland National Guard's adjutant general, thanks members of the Guard's 200th and 290th Military Police companies Aug. 22, 2002, for putting their lives on hold for nearly a year to provide security at the Pentagon in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.
