John S. Bremerman, an ironworker from Gambrills, Md., stands near the Pentagon where a pile of rubble from a concrete pad built to hold a massive crane is ready to be removed. Work on the reconstruction project proceeded at a pace that surpassed even veteran construction workers' expectations, Bremerman said.
