Army Spc. Clark Dutterer, a preventive medicine specialist at the U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., sets a "gravid trap" in the Maryland woods. Gravid mosquitoes are females that have recently had a blood meal and are ready to lay eggs. The mosquitoes are attracted to a substance in the trap, and a fan sucks them in when they get close. The mosquitoes are then tested to see if they are carrying certain diseases. Photo by Staff Sgt. Kathleen T. Rhem, USA.
