Mitochondrial DNA technician Brittany Box loads a plate of samples into a thermal cycler that will replicate the target DNA. The development of using mitochondrial DNA testing to aid identification of servicemembers has increased in the lab from only about 200 samples a year in 1995 to 800 now.
