Forward Operating Base Airborne in Afghanistan’s Wardak province is nestled among snow-covered mountains sitting at about 8,000 feet above sea level March 6, 2009. The mountain peaks reach above 14,000 feet. As scenic as the mountains are, they are also dangerous, as they are littered with land mines, many left over from the 1980s Soviet occupation.
