NSA Mechanicsburg’s annual Salute to Summer event drew hundreds to the installation’s Multipurpose Field June 28 for an evening of games, food trucks, a car show, and fireworks—held in partnership with Hampden Township. This year’s celebration included a special tribute to the Navy’s 250th Birthday, highlighting the enduring connection between the Navy and the American people. CAPT Geno Dawson judged the car show, awarding top honors to a 1964 Volvo P1800S. As darkness fell, a 20-minute fireworks display lit up the shared sky, symbolizing both the strength of local partnerships and the Navy’s proud legacy.
Just before the show began, CAPT Dawson met with Hampden Township Commissioner Al Bienstock at the Fun Food Fest and walked around the community’s event - symbolizing the strong, ongoing partnership between the base and its nearest neighbors. The relationship is rooted in shared purpose and mutual support, reflecting the Navy’s enduring legacy as a trusted presence in American life for 250 years.
