U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, performs a chemical decontamination procedure after transporting a simulated casualty during a chemical response element aboard the USS America (LHA 6) in the Coral Sea, June 24, 2025. A chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear Marine’s primary responsibility is to ensure their unit is trained and ready to survive and operate in a CBRN environment. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations, the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
