U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Adam Wachholz, a pilot with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 214, Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, writes as part of simulated close air support during a deployment for training at Misawa Air Base, Japan, June 18, 2025. VMFA-214, an F-35B squadron from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, deployed to augment MAG-12, 1st MAW under the Unit Deployment Program, which provides U.S.-based units with operational experience in the Indo-Pacific. VMFA-214 and MWCS-18 conducted joint exercises that integrated the expertise of joint tactical air controllers at Draughon Range, Misawa Air Base. Wachholz is a native of Iowa.
