Fleet Readiness Center East Innovation Lab Lead Engineer Jeremy Bunting starts a build on the Innovation Lab’s new Origin One digital light processing 3D printer. The two-person team at the Innovation Lab used the printer to fulfill a critical request for 2,000 tools for use on all three variants of the F-35 Lightning II combat aircraft. The technology allowed the team to complete the order under two weeks, putting tools in aircraft maintainers’ hands across the U.S. Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force, and foreign partners within days. The turnaround time represented less than 10% of the estimated six months procurement would have taken through traditional acquisition methods. (Photo by Heather Wilburn, Fleet Readiness Center East)
