U.S. Marine Corps Col. William J. Mitchell, the commanding officer of Marine Aircraft Group 11, awards the Legion of Merit to Sgt. Maj. Charles N. La Tour, the outgoing sergeant major of MAG-11, during a relief and appointment ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, June 5, 2025. The Legion of Merit is awarded to Marines for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. During the I Marine Expeditionary Force Summer Campaign Series 2023, Sgt. Maj. La Tour was hand selected as I MEF’s forward sergeant major, ensured the success of the exercise by supporting 164 fighter aircraft sorties for 479 flight hours west of the International Date Line.
