    173rd Airborne Brigade

U.S. Army Capt. Charles Atkins, a Soldier with First Army, holds the unit guide on colors as part of the First Army Color Guard during Cérémonie Borne Zéro as part of D-Day 81, Sainte-Mére-Eglise, France, June 05, 2025.

The ceremony pays tribute to the 82nd Airborne Division. The 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were dropped over the right flank in the Cotentin Peninsula to the routes linking the beach to the inland, to hold the road junctions as well as the tactical relevant localities and finally secure the only two bridges on the Merderet river opening a path for the combat units.
