NAVFAC EXWC Highlights Use of Unmanned Systems to Support Fleet, Warfighter

The technical director of Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center, Kail Macias, speaks at the Naval Base Ventura County and Community Unmanned Systems Forum, Camarillo, Calif., May 28, 2025. Macias highlighted the use of unmanned systems to support the Fleet and warfighter with mapping, inspections, and supporting logistics in forward deployed or contested environments. “What used to take us weeks to do, we are now doing in days -- and the data is incredibly accurate,” he said. The data is being used for planning, design, and construction for reestablishing ports and airfields, taking advantage of unmanned systems and the senor payload to provide accurate information in a digital environment. “It’s absolutely incredible,” he said. NAVFAC EXWC, headquartered at Naval Base Ventura County, California, is a command of more than 1,200 dedicated personnel providing research, development, test, and evaluation, and in-service engineering to deliver unique, agile solutions to the warfighter.
