Tanner Strickland, a Naval Air Station Oceana 2024 Project SEARCH graduate, thanks Brookwood Elementary School students and faculty after receiving the school’s Employee of the Year award, May 8, 2025.
Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana Commanding Officer Capt. Josh Appezzato and Executive Officer Capt. Rob Littman joined Virginia Beach City Public Schools leadership and staff May 8, 2025 to congratulate Tanner Strickland, a 2024 Project SEARCH graduate, after he was named Employee of the Year at a local elementary school. Tanner’s dream of working at a school cafeteria became a reality following his internship through the Project SEARCH program.
Project Search helps young adults with developmental disabilities gain hands-on job experience to help transition into competitive employment. Project SEARCH has operated at NAS Oceana for four years. Each year, the installation hosts students for internships across a variety of departments.
