JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON – (May 6, 2025) – U.S. Army Pfc. Agape Theophilopoulos, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., assigned to the Research Services directorate, Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio, was promoted to the rank of specialist by Executive Officer Cmdr. Nicholas Hamlin, Dental Corps, at the Quadrangle. Pinning on Theophilopoulos’ rank insignia is Sgt. Gabriela Saldana assigned to NAMRU San Antonio. Theophilopoulos, a 2022 graduate of Palm Harbor University High School in Palm Harbor, Fla., joined the Army in 2023 as a veterinary technician. “I joined the Army to honor a proud family tradition of military service and to advance my career in veterinary medicine,” said Theophilopoulos. Additionally, Naval Medical Research Command recently selected Theophilopoulos as the Solider of the Quarter for Navy Medicine Research and Development (NMR&D). NAMRU San Antonio is one of eight research commands within NMR&D. Its mission is to conduct gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
