Locust CEO and co-founder James Penrose (left) explains his company’s project to Oxnard College students inside the drone cage at Fathomwerx Lab at the Port of Hueneme in California on April 18. The students are enrolled in an introduction to engineering class as part of the college’s Math, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program, and were touring the lab and its assets as part of a Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division student outreach program. Penrose, who graduated from a private high school last year, launched his drone technology company with his father, Stu, and had previously completed an internship at Fathomwerx Lab through Camarillo-based Matter Labs, one of the founding partners of Fathomwerx. The father and son are testing and refining their product at Fathomwerx and will demonstrate their drone swarm counterattack during this year’s Coastal Trident series of Advanced Naval Technology Exercises.
