Sgt. 1st Class Sean Fortune laughs as Col. Shawn Nokes, the Commander of the Illinois Army National Guard's 129th Regiment (Regional Training Institute) describes Fortune, who he has known for more than 20 years. Fortune, a St. Louis (Mo.) police officer, will retire from the military on May 17 after 23 years of service. His retirement ceremony was held April 26 at the Illinois Military Academy where he served as a senior instructor with the Illinois Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 129th Regiment (Regional Training Institute) in Springfield.
