Coast Guard holds cold water boating and paddle sport safety event in Sag Harbor [Image 5 of 7]
Petty Officer 3rd Class Katherine Sand, from Coast Guard Station Montuak, N.Y., gives a presentation on the importance of affixing an “If Found” sticker on watercraft such as: canoes, kayaks or paddleboards in Sag Harbor, N.Y., March 30, 2013. A properly filled out “If Found” sticker will help reduce the number of false distress cases for the Coast Guard and partnering emergency response units in the event a watercraft is lost or becomes adrift. Station Montuak’s boat crew, Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 18 members, Mark Chanski of Cold Water Bootcamp and East Hampton’s Ocean Rescue Squad gave presentations to the public about the dangers of cold water and the safety measures to take for an enjoyable time while operating on the water.
