A newly constructed Multipurpose Disaster Shelter, or MPDS, provides an emergency shelter to locals in the event of severe flooding in a cyclone. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Alaska District recently marked the completion of a program that constructed 25 multipurpose disaster shelters and renovated 115 existing shelters.
