Lisa Franchetti and Naval History and Heritage Command Navy Department Library Branch Head Dennis Wilson display the Admiral's signed official biography photo during the 225th Anniversary celebration of the Navy Department Library. From humble beginnings in 1800 with only approximately 200 volumes in the Navy Library collection, the library now consists of 114,000 book titles, 374,000 manuscripts, and 189,000 periodicals, emphasizing naval, nautical, and military history, including foreign navies.
