U.S. Army Pfc. Anthony Guerrero, assigned to the 759th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, under the Joint Task Force-Southern Border, conducts dismounted patrol operations throughout the southern border in Wellton, Arizona, March 22, 2025. On March 20, 2025, the Secretary of Defense authorized enhanced detection and monitoring support to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), enabling service members to conduct patrolling on foot or using military tactical vehicles to report suspected illegal activity to USBP. Under the direction of the U.S. Northern Command, Joint Task Force – Southern Border aligns efforts to seal the southern border and repel illegal activity and is responsible for full-scale, agile, and multi-domain operations, which will allow for more effective and efficient DoD operations. U.S. Northern Command is working together with the Department of Homeland Security to augment U.S. Customs and Border Protection along the southern border with additional military forces.
