    Maj. Gen. Richard Burr, Deputy Commanding General (Operations), U.S. Army Pacific is briefed in the Army Service Component Command (Forward) during Key Resolve 2013 in Daegu, Korea, March 14. ASCC (FWD) consists primarily of soldiers from the U.S. Army Pacific Contingency Command Post from Fort Shafter, Hawaii, along with augmenting forces from active duty and reserve units from the U.S. Key Resolve is a combined-joint command post exercise designed to help improve theater operations performance capabilities of the RoK-U.S. combined defense system, test the ability of augmenting forces deployment into the Korean peninsula and maintain the RoK warfighting capability in order to defend the Korean Peninsula. Key Resolve 2013 is being led for the first time by the RoK Joint Chiefs of Staff and 10,000 RoK and 3,500 U.S. service members are participating in the exercise held annually in Korea around the same time every year.
