    A Japanese tea ceremony is taking place in a traditional tatami room. An elderly Western man with white hair and a mustache is offering a chawan (tea bowl) containing matcha to a young child in an orange shirt. Several observers, including two Japanese men in formal business attire, are seated on the tatami mats watching the exchange.

    Donald Mokelke, who is a Matthew C. Perry Elementary School art teacher and tea ceremony master, presents Austin R. Pippen, a third grade M.C. Perry student, 9, with green tea during the closing portion of a mikan-giving ceremony at M.C. Perry Elementary school here, Feb. 5, 2013. Several members of the local Iwakuni community were on hand to present the mikans to the school, including Iwakuni Mayor Yoshikiko Fukuda.
