U.S. Marine Corps Drill Instructor, Sgt. Fernando Zeballosmanzo, with India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, instructs recruits on how to properly put a sling on their rifle during a M16A4 service rifle issue at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, Dec. 9, 2024. Recruits will carry their rifles throughout recruit training and will learn how to properly clean and maintain them to help extend the life of the rifles for future recruits. Marines are warfighters first, and always. Every Marine is a rifleman, and Marine officer is a rifle platoon commander.
