U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Daniel Osborne an explosive ordnance (EOD) technician and short term individual augmentee with U.S. Army Pacific, sweeps a unit for metal hits during a recovery mission Nov. 12, 2024. EOD technicians utilize metal detectors to locate any metal hits within a unit, as well as render safe any unexploded ordnance found on site. Since 1985, the United States and Lao governments have worked closely together to find and recover unaccounted-for American personnel.
