U.S. Navy Lt. Over his five years of service, Whiteside found his motivation in building the spiritual readiness of warfighters and their families to better prepare them for the rigors of military life. Palenzuela Ruiz, grateful for the opportunities he was provided after immigrating from Cuba with his family, enlisted in the Navy three years ago as a way to give back by serving in the military. Through their hands-on approach, the 1st Recon Bn. religious ministry team seek to be present at every available opportunity, including exercises, deployments, and day-to-day training to build unit morale and strengthen the spiritual fitness of every Sailor and Marine in the battalion.
