A Marine MH-53 helicopter, assigned to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 265 (HMM-265), departs the flight deck of the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), May 8. Essex is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed U.S. Expeditionary Strike Group and serves as the flagship for Combat Task Force 76, the Navy's only forward-deployed amphibious force commander.
