(left to right) Piper Austin, a coastal engineer, Col. Brandon Bowman, Jacksonville District Commander and Patrick Snyder, a Chief Shore Protection section, walk miles of beaches during a recent inspection. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District dispatched multiple coastal inspection teams across Florida following Hurricanes #Helene and #milton conducting preliminary coastal damage assessments at the sites of federal coastal storm risk management projects. Coastal Engineers determine the extent of the storm damage and determine which projects require federally funded restoration assistance under Public Law 84-99, which can provide emergency technical and direct assistance in response of flood and coastal storms, such as hurricanes.
