Hugh Tuller, scientific recovery expert (SRE), Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), uses a total station to measure distances during recovery operations in England, Aug. 29, 2024. The 24-1GB team daily recovery operations that each member cycled through included: loading material into buckets, utilizing the low-pressure water system, wet screening material, and collecting possible osseous material and life support equipment under the guidance of the scientific recovery expert and life support investigator. DPAA and its short term individual augmentees from U.S. Army and Air Force units: 1st and 10th Cavalry Regiment, 91st Brigade Engineer Battalion, 786th Civil Engineering Squadron, 86th Dental Squadron, 606th Air Control Squadron, 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs, 52nd Medical Group combined their knowledge and skills to propel progress in achieving the fullest possible accounting during the more than 60-day recovery mission. There are approximately 72,000 personnel unaccounted-for from World War II in the United Kingdom of Great Britain, the Republic of Ireland and the surrounding European and Mediterranean area.
