Confident in her experience and leadership skills, U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Isabella D. Hawkley, platoon sergeant with I Marine Expeditionary Force Network Operations Center and Idaho native, was determined to achieve the rank of sergeant after being overlooked in a previous meritorious promotion board. To enhance her qualifications, she took on additional roles as a combat marksmanship coach and a martial arts instructor. In her spare time, she diligently read and completed several book reports from reads featured on the Commandant’s Professional Reading List and volunteered weekly at her church. Her dedication and hard work ultimately paid off when she won the meritorious promotion board.
Hawkley was initially shocked when she heard she was selected for meritorious promotion. “When I got the call saying that I won, it was like all my hard work had paid off,” she remarked. Shortly after her promotion, she was appointed as a platoon sergeant, which has provided her with a better understanding of her shop’s operations and has motivated her to be a better Marine for her team.
In her free time, Hawkley actively serves as a choir director and coordinates distributing meals to shelters for her church’s women’s group. She is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business management at Boise State University. Upon the conclusion of her enlistment, Hawkley plans to transition into law enforcement.
