PENSACOLA, Fla. (August 20, 2024) - Airman Xavier Liddic propels himself through the water following a skills lab in which Aviation Rescue Swimmer candidates are evaluated on their ability to don and clear a SCUBA mask while submerged underwater. The candidates complete the skill at several depths to ensure water comfortability, in addition to a variety of other skills.
Aviation Rescue Swimmer School is a physically and mentally demanding six-week course in which candidates learn water survival skills, practice rescue and disentanglement procedures, and complete several in-water tests that evaluate their abilities to swim and remain calm under pressure. Upon successful completion of Rescue Swimmer School, students will proceed to Class “A” Technical School to learn one of the Aircrew ratings.
