Hugh Tuller, scientific recovery expert, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), speaks to U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Catherine Tredway, DPAA deputy director Detachment Europe, center, and Lt. Col. Jacob Reighter, DPAA chief operational support division Europe/Mediterranean Directorate, about methodology and techniques used during recovery operations in England, August 16, 2024. Tredway and Reighter visited an active site to better understand the recovery operations that they support through the detachment; participating in wet screening, shoveling material and collecting possible evidence. Communication and relationships between the host nation, DPAA’s Europe/Mediterranean Detachment and recovery team leadership, serve to propel progress in achieving the fullest possible accountability of our service members during the 24-1GB recovery mission. The partnership and dedication shared between the United States and England makes it possible to recover U.S. personnel lost in past conflicts. There are currently approximately 72,000 U.S. personnel unaccounted-for from the World War II. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Morgan L. R. Burgess)
