U.S. Army Soldiers, assigned to 1st Battalion, 623rd Field Artillery Regiment, Task Force Hurricane, determine the priority of care for a simulated patient during a mass casualty exercise in the U.S. Central Command area of operations, July 23, 2024. The mass casualty training exercise was designed to overwhelm the unit’s medical capacity, where the number of patients or the severity of their injuries tested the Battalion Aid Station’s limitation of providing initial care to numerous simulated casualties. We prioritize time and resources to build cohesive teams, which are refined through tough and realistic training to sustain ready combat power.
